This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Ngata Memorial Lectures. The annual Ngāti Pōrou gathering acknowledges the legacy of leader and politician Ta Apirana Ngata, and provides a forum to discuss issues affecting Ngāti Pōrou today including politics and te reo māori. The idea to host a lecture series came to Sir Tamati Reedy in 1982 while he was studying in Alabama as he recalls with Justine Murray.
