Senate debates terms of Trump impeachment trial

It's been described as a "serious, solemn and historic day" in the United States as the impeachment trial against President Donald Trump has officially begun.

The US Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer, made the comment in his opening remarks before the articles of impeachment were read out just a short time ago.

Mr Trump is accused of abuse of power and obstructing congress over whether he tried to pressure Ukraine to dig up dirt on his political rival, Joe Biden.
