Window of reprieve for Aus fires

From Summer Report, 8:14 am on 7 January 2020

The death toll from the Australian fires is now at 25 after police yesterday confirmed a 71-year-old New South Wales man, who was reported missing on New Years Eve, had been found dead.

And while some rain has fallen and temperatures have dropped - it's only a small window of reprieve with the pace expected to pick up again by the end of the week.

Thick, hazardous smoke has covered Melbourne and Canberra while officials are warning huge fires in Victoria and New South Wales could meet to create a larger "mega blaze".

Yesterday, the Australian Government's National Security Committee of Cabinet met for an emergency meeting to discuss the bushfires.
