At around 9:30 this morning, Summer Times host Jesse Mulligan was talking to the head lifeguard at Whangamatā Surf Club when he received the text above from a listener named Craig.

Jesse passed on Craig's query to lifeguard Matt Millward, who responded "It could well be. I haven't seen it yet but I can go and have a look..."

Later this afternoon we rang Craig for an update.

Asked why he thought it was Jesse's job to help him find his missing wallet, Craig says it just seemed worth a shot.

"You were the person talking the person that I needed to talk to. I was literally sitting in the car looking up and he's on the phone to you and I thought 'well, might as well give it a go'."

Craig's wallet eventually turned up at a friend of a friend's place on Berry Road –  a relief because today he's heading back home to Auckland to prepare for a flight down to Bannockburn in Central Otago tomorrow.

Craig is doing a bit of work down there with a cherry export business, and his thank-you to the New Zealand public is a tip-off – right now the cheapest and best cherries of the summer are on supermarket shelves and they'll be good for another couple of weeks.
