Ford Club

Chris Kite with his Ford model Y and Steven Huckle with his 1940 Prefect.

Ant Kite bought his first 1940s Ford Anglia, with help from his dad, when he was just thirteen. Younger brother Chris got an old Ford Prefect when he turned thirteen too. Their father was an ardent member of the Ford 8 and 10 Club, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year.

Bud Semadeni inherited his 1950 Prefect from his mum, and he continues to lavish attention on it. Terry North has three, including a two-seater convertible, called 'Juicy'.

Both Kite brothers are now long time members of the club, and Chris has spent about 15 thousand dollars rebuilding the one he first owned at 13. Ant's just forked out five thousand dollars for an engine rebuild on his car. He thinks it's a sickness!

But all club members say driving their old cars feels like real work, and they're in touch with the road….. unlike modern cars which tend to wrap the driver in cotton wool.

For Spectrum, David Steemson meets members on one of their regular 'parts' days to find out what makes the Ford 8 and 10 Club members tick.
