The Ruth Adams Rescue
Adventurer Nick Atkinson retraces the steps of a famous alpine rescue that occurred in 1948. Ruth Adams was climbing with a party attempting Mt La Perouse in Mt Cook National Park. When she fell, she had the misfortune of sliding down the Western flank of the peak.
Her resulting injuries left her unconscious with broken bones. Over six laborious and taxing days Ruth was carried all the way down the notorious and trackless Cook Valley. This adventure is considered the last great pre-helicopter rescue in the New Zealand mountains.
