Ken at homeKen's property

Over the years Ken Kendall's prolific output of bronze sculptures has found its way into overseas exhibitions, corporate boardrooms, and private collections of the wealthy and famous - but it's not something he's quick to talk about.

After the death of his wife 10 years ago Ken bought a large property just out of Masterton, planning to set up a Franciscan religious community. But it didn't go quite the way he planned.

But in the meantime, in his barn, he continues to produce commissioned bronzes of local identities and a steady stream of amusing and evocative sculptures drawn from Kiwi events, mannerisms and ways of life. And people keep turning up to spend a bit of time with the man wearing the habit. For Spectrum, Briar Whitehead showed up at the barn on the occasion of Ken's 80th birthday.
