Although it unfolds on a race course, Wellington Cup Day isn't just about the horses. It's a day for designers, both new and old, to show off their most extravagant of fashions.

It's a day to sit with friends and yarn over a bottle (or two) of wine. It's a day to don your best set of heels, and tuck away a pair of jandles in your handbag for later. And for some it's a colourful day to work, amongst the spectacle unfolding around them.

Melody Thomas ventured along to Trentham raceway to talk to the punters, organisers and the people who pull it all together behind the scenes. Join her as she explores the fashion village, the birdcage, the commentary box and the field itself at Wellington's Cup Day 2008.
