Steven Lee Cropper turned 81 yesterday. He's one of the great American guitarists, songwriter and record producer, probably best known as the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s. He's worked with artists from Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Carla Thomas, to Ringo Starr, Jimmy Barnes and Harry Nilsson.
