LATE NIGHT PHIL:

Dave Edmunds turns 73 today. Probably his biggest solo hit was in 1970, his cover of the Smiley Lewis classic "I Hear You Knocking". A big part of the British pub rock movement in the 70s, he's worked with countless artists including Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, The Stray Cats, George Harrison and Dion. His early bands included Rockpile and Love Sculpture who gave us that totally OTT instrumental Sabre Dance, and he's an occasional member of Ringo Starr's All Starr Band.

From the 1997 album A Pile Of Rock Live, here's a Dave Edmunds mini-concert featuring his Swedish backing band The Refreshments:

Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - King Of Love
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - Queen Of Hearts
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock And Roll)
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - Here Comes The Weekend
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - Sweet Little Rock 'n' Roller
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - Sabre Dance
Dave Edmunds and The Refreshments - I Hear You Knocking
