From Our Changing World, 9:50 pm on 21 April 2011

Brian Robinson, of Otago’s Chemistry Department, Peter-John Wormald of the University of Adelaide and ENT surgeon Mr Simon Robinson.

University of Otago material chemist Brian Robinson, left, with Peter-John Wormald of the University of Adelaide and his son and ENT surgeon Simon Robinson, of Robinson Squidgel Ltd which performed the clinical trials.

A wound-healing gel, based on polymers found in crab shell and squid, has been successfully commercialised in a collaborative deal for the University of Otago. Work on the project began after Brian Robinson's son and ENT surgeon Simon Robinson challenged his father to come up with a biological substance that would help solve the problem of post-operative complications after sinus surgery. Our Changing World spoke to Brian Robinson and Lyall Hanton, who are both at the University of Otago, in this earlier interview.
