Matahi Brightwell
From Nine to Noon 21 March 2014
Matahi Brightwell is an artist, master carver, canoe builder and the man behind the burgeoning sport of waka ama, or outrigger canoe racing.
His love of outrigger canoes came from several years spent living in Tahiti where he not only learned the art of paddle sailing and caught the canoe racing bug, but built a double-hulled canoe, which he then sailed back to New Zealand.
