Ayrlies Garden
Bev McConnell is a well-respected horticultural identity in New Zealand and internationally. Over almost 50 years she has developed Ayrlies Garden at Whitford, south-east Auckland from barren farmland into 100 acres of plants, wetlands and woodlands. The property has been described as a striking example of landscape design. Ayrlies has been assessed by the New Zealand Gardens Trust as a 'Garden of International Significance'. As the creator of Ayrlies, Beverly McConnell has received many accolades and awards – and this year, at the age of 80, she was recognised by the United Kingdom's Royal Horticulture Society.
