The number of young people spending the night in police cells
A independent report by the Police Conduct Authority, the Children's Commissioner and the Human Rights Commission is critical of a three-fold increase in the number of young people spending the night in police cells, over the past three years. Kathryn talks to Miriam Menzies, the lawyer for a 16-year-old girl who was recently arrested and held in police custody for more than 36 hours in the Hutt Valley; and Hastings youth Lawyer Don Kennedy, whose clients are regularly placed in police cells.
