Sir John Logan Campbell - the "Father of Auckland"

From Nine To Noon, 11:33 am on 19 June 2012

Professor Russell Stone is a pre-eminent historian and an authority on Sir John Logan Campbell, who was a key figure in Auckland's early history. This month marks the centenary of the death of esteemed philanthropist Sir John Logan Campbell, known as the Father of Auckland. Professor Stone has republished his long out-of-print memoir, 'Poenamo: Romance and Reality of Antipodean Life in the Infancy of a New Colony', orginally published in 1881. Poenamo is a classic NZ adventure story, chronicling the birth of a virgin colony and what Campbell encountered on his arrival: bush, beauty, and Taonga Maori.
