Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk at the University of Cambridge and a Senior Scientist in the UK Medical Research Council's Biostatistics Unit. He played a leading role in the public inquiry into the murders by the doctor, Harold Shipman, the UK's most prolific convicted serial killer and has also been a consultant to World Anti-Doping Agency, as well as drug companies Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline.
