The American missionary spent four years undercover on the North Korea-China border helping North Korean refugees, including escorting some along a modern-day underground railway across China to a third country. He wrote a book Escaping North Korea about his experiences and is also the founder of Crossing Borders Ministries, an NGO that provides humanitarian assistance to North Korean refugees.
