John Connolly is best known for his crime thrillers, often with a hint of the supernatural, set in the United States and featuring the brooding, tormented private detective Charlie Parker. He was a journalist when he wrote his first Parker novel, securing the largest sum for a book deal for any Irish writer. He is in New Zealand promoting his 13th book, The Whisperers, and he's also written a novel for young adults, The Gates.
