Aotearoa's only not-for-profit power company launches this week, with the aim of reducing energy hardship. The Wellington social enterprise group Sustainability Trust will run the company which will use the profits from its "regular" customers to subsidise the electricity bills for those struggling to pay the bills.
About 700 customers are ready to join when the scheme goes live on Thursday and a pilot with 80 customers has already been underway since May.
