New Zealand ultra-marathon runner Ruth Croft has won the Western States Endurance 100 race in California - described as one of the world's toughest races - in searing 40 degree heat.
It was redemption for the Wanaka-based professional runner, who came second in the same race last year.
Her time of 17 hours 21 minutes and 30 seconds was the third fastest in the race's history.
