Building the future: 30 year infrastructure plan

From Nine To Noon, 9:08 am on 12 May 2021

Congestion charging, water metering and hiking the cost of parking are among a range of proposals set out by the Infrastructure Commission in its 30 year draft strategy, released today.

The strategy calls for an overhaul of the way the country's infrastructure is planned, prioritised and built.

The Commission says years of under-investment means there is a backlog of infrastructure that needs to be built, and a significant gap between what we need and what we can afford.

But it says as well as building new infrastructure, better use needs to be made of what we already have.

Kathryn speaks with the chair of the Infrastructure Commission, former Reserve Bank Governor, Dr Alan Bollard.
