Health Minister David Clark has resigned from his portfolio. Dr Clark was heavily criticised for breaching level four lockdown rules by going mountain biking, and driving his family 20 kilometres in Dunedin to go for a walk on the beach. In response, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern demoted him to lowest ranking in the Cabinet saying she would have sacked him under ordinary circumstances, but to avoid disruption in the health sector in the middle of a pandemic she could not.
