Sweet serenades: bringing music to the streets

From Nine To Noon, 9:54 am on 8 May 2020

Opera singers Wade Kernot and Emma Pearson usually perform in concert halls, but with venues closed, they're taking music to the people.

With permission from Healthline, the Wellington couple has begun a small, safe-distancing opera company to give street serenades.

The bass and soprano, respectively, have a small stage they can bring to a front lawn or street, and will sing accompanied by Bluetooth speaker.

Wade and Emma chat to Kathryn Ryan about Avenue Opera and Emma sings 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from the Puccini's 1918 opera Gianni Schicchi.
