Emma Marris - expanding our definition of nature

From Nine To Noon, 10:06 am on 29 January 2018

Environmental writer Emma Marris is the author of the book Rambunctious Garden: Saving Nature in a Post-Wild World. She has worked for many years as a reporter for the journal, Nature, and her work has been published in many other publications including National Geograhic, The New York Times, Discover and Slate. Emma says we've become too focused on trying to restore nature to the way it was - she calls it the "cult of pristine wilderness". She argues it is both culturally and ecologically harmful, and instead, we should be expanding our definition of nature, to include not just iconic protected national parks, but other areas far more touched by humans.
