Botox, collagen, laser treatment, hair removal, porcelain veneers for perfect teeth... we know that cosmetic medicine and 'beauty therapy' is big business. But what of pre-modern women? Dr Kim Phillips, Associate Professor of History at Auckland University, has been researching medieval women's health and cosmetic medicine. She tells Kathryn Ryan there are a surprising number of parallels.
