NZ botanist, plant ecologist and conservationist Emeritus Professor Sir Alan Mark specialises in ecology, conservation and environmental management of indigenous vegetation, especially of tussock grassland, forest, lakeshore, wetland and alpine ecosystems. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of NZ, receiving their Hutton Medal in 1997 and Charles Fleming Environmental Award in 2010. He is a former president of the Forest & Bird Protection Society and was knighted in 2010 for his conservation work. His new book is called Above The Treeline: A Nature Guide to Alpine New Zealand, published by Craig Potton Publishing.
