Women, younger candidates get a boost

The country's mayoral ranks received a boost from women and candidates under 40 years of age in the elections. Campbell Barry in Hutt City, and Aaron Hawkins in Dunedin, joined other candidates to reflect a new generation of politicians coming through. Local Government New Zealand says younger candidates were among the highest polling candidates in their wards, particularly those who stood in metro and provincial councils.
