This week saw the passing of Pixie Williams, the singer of one of New Zealand's most enduring songs. 'Blue Smoke', written by Ruru Karaitiana and sung by Ms Williams in 1948, marked the beginning of the recording industry, being the first record wholly produced in Aoteroa. Jim Sullivan caught up with Pixie in 1995, asking her to reflect on her formative years in Wellington and those infamous 'Blue Smoke' recording sessions.
