Studios round the country opened their doors to the public to mark New Zealand Music Month in May 2010. If you were in Palmerston North you could have seen inside The Stomach Studio. In Tauranga The Colour Field engineers were making tea for visitors. Nick Atkinson checked out three diverse Auckland studios. From the tiny and crammed Earwig Studio, with its reverb chamber and array of modified vintage amps to the regal and retro main studio at Stebbings. It was as much a journey through the contorted minds of the various boffins who set up these baroque temples to sound, as it was a tiki tour inside classic rooms in which great music is recorded.
