Wellington's Economy Record have released a string of solid releases with strong international flavours of late. Check out the liner notes and you'll see the players of Shogun Orchestra's Haitian melodies, Lord Echo's West African inspired grooves, and the classic Maori tunes with a heavy dose of Don Drummound from 'Sing Along with the Yoots' are mostly one in the same- featuring members of Fat Freddy's Drop, Twinset and The Blackseeds. Emma Smith asked label spokesperson and Fat Freddy's Drop trumpeter Toby Laing why they chose to name themselves Economy Records.
