In the Otis Frizzell-penned artwork to Fat Freddys Drop's much-delayed second album Dr Boondigga and The Big BW, the seven-strong future soul collective are pictured bottled up in jars in the laboratory of the mysterious Dr Boondigga. As Dallas Tamira, the voice of Freddys' tells it, Dr Boondigga is an evil scientist trying to kidnap The Drop and pull 'em from the path of the good funk - and Dr Boondigga's evil plot in fact stands in for the pressures and temptations of the music industry. Fat Freddy's Drop has been largely free of these pressures, simmering the sound in Lyall Bay and coming up with 'The Big BW' on Freddys-time. Sam Wicks spoke to the Drop's Head Chef, Mu, about their Crock-Pot method of music making.
