Despite its success in many areas, NZ On Air is often criticised by members of the music community for it's funding strategies, and this May came under the scrutiny of - among others - journalist Duncan Grieve, former editor of Real Groove. Grieve spoke to some musicians who'd never received grants - such as hip-hop artists Homebrew, Tourettes and The Mint Chicks Rueben Neilson, as well as industry stalwart Mike Bradshaw - all felt there were fundamental flaws in the system as it stands.
