Despite its success in many areas, NZ On Air is often criticised by members of the music community for it's funding strategies, and this May came under the scrutiny of - among others - journalist Duncan Grieve, former editor of Real Groove. Grieve spoke to some musicians who'd never received grants - such as hip-hop artists Homebrew, Tourettes and The Mint Chicks Rueben Neilson, as well as industry stalwart Mike Bradshaw - all felt there were fundamental flaws in the system as it stands. So where to from here? To discuss some of the questions that have come up in the media of late, Music 101's Kirsten Johnstone spoke to NZOA music manager Brendan Smyth.
