Thrash metal evergreen Dave Mustaine joined Metallica in 1981 as lead guitarist, but was ousted two years later because of his alcoholism. Not to be outdone, Mustaine formed Megadeth, who went on to become one of the Big Four of Thrash metal, alongside Slayer, Anthrax and his former band mates in Metallica. Twenty-six years later, Mustaine has traded addiction and rock'n'roll excess for religion, and Megadeth are going strong, winning over a new generation of Thrash fans. The band played Auckland on 5 October 2009, and Sam Wicks headed over to the venue to talk to Dave.
