Hollie Smith's debut album 'Long Player' teamed her powerful voice with Opensouls guitarist and producer Jeremy Toy and a wish list of players that included fellow Opensoul Stephanie Brown, sticks man Darren Mathiassen, Deva Mahal and Imon Star and Wellington's Mission Choir. Long Player's release came with the announcement that Hollie has signed to Manhattan Records, part of the Blue Note Group, a move that brings a new level of expectation to the release. Hollie Smith headed into the Radio New Zealand studios, a copy of a New Zealand Herald review of Long Player under her arm, to talk to Music Reporter Sam Wicks about her thoughts on how her soulful sounds will be exported.
