Since his days in Toy Love, 25 years ago, Chris Knox has avoided the rock trappings of playing in a band, preferring to work mostly on his own and at home, or as a duo with Alec Bathgate as Tall Dwarfs. For his latest solo release, he's accompanied by The Nothing - a rhythm section comprising Stefan Neville and Jol Mulholland, with help from recording engineer Roy Martyn. Music Mix reporter Andrew Clifford popped around to Chris' Grey Lynn house and interrupted the cricket to ask what prompted him to enlist the help of a band and record them in a proper studio.
