RNZ Music is delighted to present Kiwi singer-songwriter Kendall Elise’s new break-up anthem ‘Between Hello and Goodbye’. The hilarious and incredibly relatable video stars Amourous Ava (Kalee Jackson) as a papier-mâché broken as a papier-mâché broken heart.
Kendall Elise’s debut single ‘Heart Full of Dirt’ was selected as a top-three finalist for the APRA Best Country Song in 2017. The single’s success paved the way for her debut EP I Didn’t Stand A Chance, which was a finalist for Best Independent Debut at the 2018 Taite Prize.
Kendall has supported country favourites both here and abroad, including Tami Neilson, Midge Marsden, and Bic Runga.
‘Between Hello And Goodbye’ is an ode to loss and heartache: “It’s about someone coming to terms with the end of a relationship,” Kendal says, “They’ve gotten over the initial shock but they are still only just getting by each day
“They acknowledge that things will be better in time but for now they just want to be allowed to feel sad.”
The accompanying video, directed by Amber Beaton, sees Kendall personify heartbreak by dressing up as a giant papier-mâché human heart, who’s just trying to get through the day.
