RNZ Music is proud to be the first to share the new single and vid from Christchurch alt-rockers Adam Hattaway and The Haunters. ‘Big Night’ is the second single from their forthcoming album and comes with a video directed by the wonderfully talented Delaney Davidson.
‘Big Night’ is taken from Adam Hattaway and The Haunters’ third full-length album Woolston, Texas which is due out on March 26th.
Heavy with guitar and wailing falsetto, the tack is a favourite of Ben Edwards, who produced the new record at his famed Sitting Room studios in Lyttelton.
Adam recalls Ben’s “experimental” methods in recording the track: “He tried to get us really amped up, running around slapping and pushing us over while we were playing it... it’s truly, one of the strangest experiences I’ve had."
The Delaney Davidson-directed music video, shot on his iPhone, follows the gang of Haunters goofing off in Christchurch's Moorhouse Ave Burger King carpark “like a bunch of idiot wannabe petrol-heads trying to go out for a 'big night'
“The video contrasts against the weight of the song,” Adam says, “And hopefully shows we don’t take ourselves too seriously. I want all upbeat rock and roll to be like that.”
The Ōtautahi/Christchurch-based alt-rockers are on the last leg of their ‘Wasting Our Time’ tour, which Adam says has been refreshing: “You forget all the special moments that happen along the way on every tour. There’s been a real sense of adventure.”
