From RNZ Music, 12:00 pm on 21 July 2020

Warren Maxwell of Trinity Roots and genre-bending Northland musician Troy Kingi catch up to have a kōrero and perform poignant covers of one another's songs.

  • Troy Kingi performs Trinity Roots' 'Home, Land and Sea' from their 2010 album of the same same
  • Warren Maxwell performs Troy Kingi’s 'Truganini' from his 2019 album Holy Colony Burning Acres

Over their careers, musicians Troy Kingi and Warren Maxwell have shared many musical memories together. Troy still considers his opening set for Trinity Roots at Auckland’s Leigh Sawmill ‘many moons ago’ his most memorable performance.

Both artists have made their mark on the New Zealand music scene, Warren with bands such as Trinity Roots, Little Bushman, and Fat Freddy’s Drop, and Troy with his critically acclaimed genre-bending releases as part of his ten albums in ten years kaupapa.

During lockdown both Troy and Warren slowed down, spent time with family, and reconnected with nature.

Under Cover is a multi-episode web series where two musicians talk with one another about their music, their lives, and how Covid-19 has affected them. Each episode includes two musical performances where the musicians cover one another’s songs.

Under Cover is co-presented by The Spinoff and RNZ Music | A Banished Music Production | Thanks to Creative New Zealand
