Sydney-based Kiwi dub act SUB-TRIBE release debut EP

Sydney-based SUB-TRIBE are a six-piece dub-fusion band who trace their roots back to Aotearoa. Their debut self-titled EP - a bass-heavy journey across genres - is out today.

The band is made up of Taranaki native Ray Nolan (vocals), Wellington brothers Jevon Tawhai (guitar, keys, vocals) and Tommy-John Herbert (guitar, vocals), and Sydneysiders David Reglar (sax), William Endicott (trumpet), and Nick Polovineo (Trombone).

SUB-TRIBE started their musical journey supporting Salmonella Dub on their 2017 Australian tour. Since then, they’ve released four singles, including ‘Tribute’, for which they created their first official music video.

The track is a homage to the King of Reggae, Bob Marley with all its lyrics taken from Bob Marley song titles.

The band’s new EP is a continuation of the ‘Tribute’ vibe, with solid grooves, soaring vocal harmonies, and seriously infectious beats.

“We love to experiment electronically and go off on musical tangents,” the band says, “But we also love the simplicity of a voice and an acoustic guitar. This release is about bringing together the best of those worlds.”
