Covid-19: Pacific Music Awards postponed

From RNZ Music, 3:01 pm on 24 March 2020

The 2020 Pacific Music Awards, which were set to take place on May 21, have been postponed. Finalists will still be announced online in early/mid April.

The Pacific Music Awards Trust has not yet confirmed a new date for the awards, which were set to take place at South Auckland’s Vodafone Events Centre, but they have committed to delivering the awards “in some form or another”.

Finalists, sponsors and funders will be announced online in early/mid-April.

“We want to ensure we can celebrate the music released by our Pacific artists in 2019,” the Trust said in a statement, “And we are fortunate that the nature of our event allows some flexibility in terms of timing and format.”

“Look after each other, your families and your communities. We encourage everyone to follow all the directives and advice given, so we can collectively respond to Covid-19.”

Last year marked the 15th anniversary of the awards, which was celebrated with a special performance from Pacific musicians including SWIDT, Kings, Adeaze, Mal Lakatani, Bella Kalolo and more.
