VIDEO PREMIERE: Skilaa ‘But I Do’

From RNZ Music, 12:00 pm on 17 March 2020

Auckland band Skilaa make music that’s a mix of RnB, alternative/prog folk, hip-hop and perhaps something you can’t quite put your finger on. RNZ Music is proud to present the new video for the group’s third single ‘But I Do’.

Skilaa's members include Chelsea Prastiti (lead vocals, writing), Michael Howell (guitar, writing), Adam Tobeck (Drums), Tom Dennison (bass, writing), Crystal Choi (backing vocals) and Lea Anae (backing vocals).

The group met through the Auckland University jazz programme, and started writing together in late 2017. They had initial success with their first singles ‘Bluffin’ and ‘Way of the World’, and have been solidly gigging across Auckland and Wellington (when they can get down!) ever since.

The video for their latest single ‘But I Do’ was filmed and edited by SKILAA frontwoman Chelsea Prastisi’s sister, Briar Prastiti (HYDRABITCH), who’s based in Greece.

It features rich stop-motion nature scenes from Greece and Cyprus, where the sisters share a heritage connection through their father and their Yiayia (Greek for Grandmother), Anni.

Skilaa’s first EP is due out in 2020 with plans for a full New Zealand tour upon release. Catch them at the 2020 Waiheke Jazz fest in Auckland.
