VIDEO PREMIERE: Alae ‘Summer Thing’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 21 February 2020

RNZ Music is stoked to be the first to share the new single and video from Auckland four-piece Alae. ‘Summer Thing’ is a slice of pop perfection from their forthcoming 5-track EP.

Alae have been releasing music since 2016, including a self-titled EP, their 2018 album Henry St, as well as a bunch of singles.

Their new EP is out June 1st.

The group started out as multi-instrumental two-piece Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan, and now includes drummer Jayden Lee and bassist Marika Hodgson, who also makes music under the moniker Sorrento.

Their new track ‘Summer Thing’ plays with the idea of a love match so perfect, it feels as good as summer.

The song’s video was created by directing duo Vision Thing (Ian Sweeney and Dom Antelme), who were responsible for Alae’s 2018 vid ‘Home’, as well as a number of other vids for acts including Randa and Racing.

“This song is so catchy we’re pretty sure it’s going make even Goths want to dance,” the Vision Thing team says, “So that’s the idea we pitched to the band: a male goth trying to win over a female goth with a sick song and some slick moves. We’re really proud of this video.”

The year has only just begun, but it’s already been big for Alae. After seeing in 2020 at R&V, the band collaborated with local hip-hop hero Kings to release a second remix of their track ‘Hit Me Where It Hurts’, and played a headline set at Auckland’s Pride celebration, Big Gay Out.

More live dates are on the cards, with an NZ/AU tour in the works for May.

Summer Thing is out now through all digital streaming outlets.
