As an 18 year old Anika was a finalist in the Smokefree Rockquest.

At 21 she released her first album Thinking Room, recorded in New York and financed by the major U.S.A. label, Atlantic Records. It was the late 1990s.

Since then Anika has forged a unique and successful career that has included five studio albums, three children's albums, two documentaries, radio presenting, several TV and podcast series, and winning the 2019 Best Presenter Entertainment trophy at the NZTV Awards.

For the 2002 release of her debut album The Thinking Room, Anika was invited to give her first live performance with a band in front of a studio audience for RNZ's Live @ Helens series.
