VIDEO PREMIERE: Antony Jeffares ‘Wrong/Loss’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 10 October 2019

RNZ Music is proud to be the first to share the debut single from Tauranga songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Antony Jeffares.

Half nostalgic tear-jerker, half indie-pop summer banger, Antony wrote 'Wrong/Loss' after a problematic solo tour in Europe, and a shaky move from Tauranga to Auckland last year.

“I’m generally an upbeat guy so it’s only with hindsight that I can see how depressed I was when I got to Auckland,” Antony says, “'Wrong/Loss' is about regret. It’s about being wrong about things or ideas and losing the things and people you love.”

Although this is Antony's first single under the moniker Antony Jeffares (his given names), he's played in various projects over the years, including PleasePlease, Pig Island, and solo, under the moniker Ants Jeffares.

Antony's been playing fresh solo material live, with his new band, recently opening for French For Rabbits and Same Name Confusion. He plans to play live a lot more in the coming months, and is set to release an album When Twilight Comes (I Am Still Yearning) in February.

The video for 'Wrong/Loss' is directed by Antony's wife, director Olive Jeffares, and shot entirely on Super 8, giving it a wonderfully nostalgic feel. Shot in Antony’s hometown of Tauranga, it tells the story of a pair of young lovers.

Antony describes his sound as, “Finding a sweet spot somewhere between Peter Gabriel, Carole King and Blood Orange,” he’s heavily influenced by the Laurel Canyon scene of the 70s and new wave pop of the 80s.

'Wrong/Loss' is available on all major streaming platforms on Friday October 11th.
