From RNZ Music, 10:30 am on 31 May 2019

It's the last day of NZ Music Month, but Aucklanders still have time to check out a superb exhibition of gig posters from the 1980s to today.

The team at Auckland’s Central City Library has created a timeline of New Zealand gig posters dating back to the 1980s.

It’s on display at the Central City library in Lorne Street until Wednesday, June 5.

The collection provides a snapshot of different eras in the NZ music scene, and how poster art has changed from the early days of screen printing, to when Photoshop kicked in.

Some of the posters are from personal collections, found either stashed away in people’s attics, or carefully stored in boxes in their spare rooms.

The newer posters were backed up on hard drives by artists and venues and were easier to track down.

Bands featured in include The 3Ds, Sneaky Feelings, The Verlaines and more.

The team at Auckland Libraries are also keen to hear from anyone who knows the dates or artists of some posters that they don’t have any info on. You can email them at gigpostersnz@gmail.com.
