The Australian radio station has moved the date of its much-loved Hottest 100 so it’ll no longer take place on Australia Day. Although the response has been overwhelmingly positive, a small number of Australian keyboard-warriors have completely lost their sh*t.

There’s been a lot of debate about Australia Day (Jan 26) in recent years, with many saying it doesn’t represent all Australians. Some have even called it ‘Invasion Day’.

Triple J chose to move the date after broad consultation, saying “The Hottest 100 has become a symbol in the debate about Australia Day. The Hottest 100 wasn’t created as an Australia Day celebration. It was created to celebrate your favourite songs of the past year.”

Reaction has been swift, hilarious and filled with words like ‘snowflake’, ‘communist’, and ‘vegan’ (weirdly). Here’s the 13 funniest:

12. Marissa York via Facebook: "Again, a bunch of soft, green tree hugging, vegan eating, soy latte drinking, solar powered ... left[ies]."

11. Dylan Elliott via Facebook: "What am i going to listen too when i’m 4 caps deep on Straya day? B105? Nova? Hottest 100 was what kept me from buggin out."

10. Karl Albers via Facebook: "This country is getting out of control that's all I can say. Next will be no xmas, Easter and so on. What is this country coming too."

9. Nic 'Man (Person)' Healey via Twitter: "The Triple J hottest 100 was started in 1788 when three convicts named John listed their ten favourite sea shanties while dying of dysentery. I'm disgusted at Triple J for breaking such a proud Australian tradition."

8. Brad French via Facebook: "Ban Christmas carols on Christmas day."

7. Monikha Aryal via Facebook: "You sound like a salty whinger."

6. Ellie Laura: "Guys guys calm down... this means we get 2 party weekends in a row. Keep the beers flowing and chill your beans."

5. Gavin Clair via Facebook: "When was this so called vote held? I never even heard of it until today. It must have been held at the National lefty snowflake convention. What a joke."

4. Michelle Pini via Twitter: "BREAKING: Old man takes time out from tinkering with tin cans and string to complain about newfangled music getting too political."

3. James Howarth via Facebook: "I think this is a great move. I mean its one day different, and a full day extra to get proper smashed! That good sir is NOOOOOOICE GARY."

2. Jonathan Brown via Twitter: "The #Hottest100 date is a programming decision. @SenatorFifield intervening is as appropriate as him demanding Gardening Australia get a better time slot."

1. Joe Szyslak via Facebook:  "You've ruined Australia Day."

26 January is the date Captain Arthur Phillip, commander of the First Fleet of eleven convict ships from Great Britain, and the first Governor of New South Wales, arrived at Sydney Cove and raised the Union Jack to signal the beginning of the colony.

The Triple J Hottest 100 has been moved to January 27.
