Dinosaur Jr have been one of the most prominent alternative acts on the planet since their inception in 1984. Plagued by inner-band conflict, bass player Lou Barlow and drummer Murph eventually left the band in the 90s, leaving singer/ guitarist J Mascis to continue with new players.

In 2005 though, Murph and Barlow returned to the fold, and the band has gone on to release 4 albums that have garnered some of the best reviews of their career.

Ahead of their show at Auckland's Studio on January 23rd, we call Murph to discuss the band's longevity, the still-present awkwardness between the three band mates, and his views on the modern musical landscape.
