Madeline North aka So Below released a few songs about a year ago on Soundcloud with the tag #gothpop.  It’s a fair description of the sound, a little darker than a Broods track would be while retaining super tight song writing, arrangement and the slickest of production.  Madeline wrote the songs in collaboration with fellow New Zealander’s Leroy Clampitt (Big Taste), Sam McCarthy (Kids of 88) and Aaron Short (The Naked and Famous) which may go some way to explaining the strength of the debut EP.

“Writing the songs involved a lot of time in boys bedrooms.  That’s where I wrote most of the EP.  Leroy literally has the tiniest bedroom, very small, and that’s where most of it happened.”

From small bedrooms sometimes come marvellous creations and So Below is now developing into a live act with assistance from Aaron Short and Jesse Wood (both of The Naked and Famous).  She played her first New Zealand show recently at Auckland’s REC bar, and will open for The Naked and Famous at their one of Auckland show in January.
