15 million Spotify plays. Hundreds of thousands of SoundCloud clicks. They’re big numbers for a twenty year old whose debut album has only just been released. Topograph is the debut from Thomston whose song writing ability was quickly snapped up by the same management company behind the success of Lorde and Sole Mio.
But management deals don’t mean success. Large numbers of people loving your songs is the only way to measure your success as a musician, and Thomston has serious fans spread all over the world. His vulnerable yet versatile voice, punchy song writing and contemporary delivery will no doubt ensure that his debut opens him up to even more people.
His parents gave him just one year from leaving school in which to make an impact with his music, otherwise he was to find something ‘serious’ to do with his life. His parents are taking him seriously now.
For the first time ever he joined Alex Behan at RNZ’s studio’s for a live broadcast interview and performance featuring a few of his own songs and a cover of one of his favourite current artists Ariana Grande.
