Southern Amp is Christchurch's version of the Big Day Out, Only smaller, and without the big international names. It's had a patchy history so far - the inaugural event in 2005 wasn't as well attended as expected, and it was postponed last year because the initial date clashed with the U2 gig. But in 2007, Southern Amp was back, and by all accounts it was a great day. Over forty acts performed over three stages, including one specifically for Christchurch born and bred musicians. Artists ranged from Shihad to Scribe, Concord Dawn to The Checks.
